Order of Lenin, Type 5, Variation 2 (Durov Type IV, Variation 1, Sub-Variation 2), #26269, circa early- to mid- 1945.

Order of Lenin, Type 5, Variation 2 (Durov Type IV, Variation 1, Sub-Variation 2), #26269, circa early- to mid- 1945.

In solid 23 K gold, platinum and enamels. Measures 42.9 mm in height (incl. the eyelet), 38.1 mm in width; weighs 35.3 g not including the suspension and connecting link (significantly heavier than a Variation 1 of the same type and vintage). Unlike the much more common Var. 1, this version features flat reverse without the circular "dimple" depression in the center. The serial number is stamped in the upper part of the reverse, in the manner standard for its type.

In very fine to excellent condition, very respectable for any WW2 issue and outstanding for a scarce "no dimple" version of the order. The enamel on along the edges of the banner has several small surface flakes that do not penetrate to the gold and are almost unnoticeable to the naked eye. The enamel on the banner is perfect otherwise, completely free of scratches, rubbing or other glaring flaws. The red band around the center medallion shows a few microscopic flakes invisible to the naked eye. The red enamel on the star and hammer and sickle emblem is prefect, and so is the grey enamel on the background. The enamel shows beautiful luster everywhere.

The details of the gold wreath and platinum bas-relief are perfect and crisp, free of significant dings. The reverse is likewise practically pristine, with nice even toning to the gold. Comes on original suspension, a WW2 two-layer model in steel with self-locking pin. The ribbon is quite old but beautifully preserved and clean. The connecting link is original and has not been cut.
